If you spend any time with the families we support, one thing becomes clear quite quickly. They usually know exactly what could help their child – the challenge is being able to access it at the right time.
We hear it often… Waiting lists are long. Sessions are limited. Some therapies are not available at all through statutory services. Even when support is in place, it is not always enough to keep progress moving. Families are left trying to fill the gaps themselves, often at significant cost.
That is where Therapy Stars Foundation comes in.
We are a local charity offering grants of up to £500 to families across Shropshire, Cheshire, Mid Wales and North Wales, helping them access therapy for children with long-term or life-limiting conditions. That might be physiotherapy, speech therapy, or something less widely available like hydrotherapy or equine therapy. The type of therapy matters, but timing matters just as much. When support comes at the right point, it can change what progress looks like.
This work comes directly from experience. Our founder, Sian, spent years as a children’s physiotherapist, seeing how often families were trying to fund extra therapy themselves. When the pandemic stopped access to NHS services altogether, that gap became impossible to ignore, and the foundation was set up to help bridge it.
What that looks like in practice is best understood through the families themselves.
Isabella was recovering from a brain injury and needed consistent physiotherapy during a critical period. With additional sessions funded through a grant, she moved from sitting to crawling and is now working towards standing and stepping. That kind of progress does not happen by chance. It comes from the right support.
Shaira’s mum told us that after a few weeks of therapy, her daughter put two words together for the first time in twelve years. Two words might sound small, but they change everything about how a child can connect with the world around them.
We also see quieter changes. Vega building strength in hydrotherapy as she works towards sitting independently. Isla learning to make choices using her eyes, picking a snack or a favourite song, finding ways to communicate that ease frustration and bring more calm into daily life. These are the kinds of steps that shape everyday routines.
Behind all of these stories is the same reality. Therapy is expensive, especially when it needs to be ongoing. Families are often balancing care, work, and financial pressure, and there comes a point where continuing without support is not sustainable.
This is why donations matter so much.
Our trustees run the charity on a voluntary basis, which means donations go directly to funding therapy for families. A £500 donation can support one child to access the sessions they need. That is a clear, direct impact.
There is also something important about keeping this local. The families we support are part of the same communities as our donors. You may not know them personally, but your support is helping people close to home move forward when things could easily stall.
And when a child makes progress, even in a small way, it changes more than you might expect. It can ease pressure on parents, create more space for siblings, and shift the rhythm of everyday life in a positive direction. That is why our grants can also support siblings, recognising that the impact is wider than one child.
Progress takes time, but we do see, week by week, how the right support at the right moment can change what is possible. That is what you are part of when you support Therapy Stars Foundation. We’d love it if you could donate today – find out more here.
